Metrolink and the Manchester FA having searched the region looking for a football team with a Premier League attitude, presenting St John’s Junior Football club, in Chorlton, with the trophy for Metrolink’s Team of the Month.
The Team of the Month award was introduced by Metrolink and the Manchester FA to inspire and encourage young footballers in Greater Manchester, and across the Metrolink network. St John’s Junior FC was chosen because the team has worked hard to bring young players through and work with neighbouring teams to develop a positive attitude both on and off the pitch and have won £100 of Umbro sports equipment for the team
The presentation of the prize comes as part of Metrolink’s ongoing investment in the area since the launch of its new stop at Chorlton near to the team’s base last year. The three new stops at Firswood, Chorlton, and St Werburgh’s Road are the first on the South Manchester line.
Commenting on the team being crowned Metrolink Team of the Month, head coach Denis Moran said: “To receive the Metrolink Team of the Month award is fantastic for everybody connected to St. John's Junior Football Club. There are many people ranging from the children to the coaches and managers who deserve this award for all their outstanding effort and contribution they make week upon week.
“We are all very proud and honoured and would like to thank Metrolink for this wonderful accolade.”
Philip Purdy, Transport for Greater Manchester’s Metrolink director, said: “Well done to St John’s Junior FC – we are delighted to have chosen them as Metrolink’s Team of the Month. They have a positive attitude to the game and are a wonderful example to others, so this is very much deserved.”
Continuing the award winning trend, St. John’s Junior Football Club has been awarded FA Charter Standard Club status and ensured that all its coaches go through FA approved coaching qualifications.
Metrolink works with the Manchester FA each month to select one Greater Manchester team to receive the Metrolink Team of the Month title. |
